ADULT CPR
 
 
PURPOSE   Train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults. 
PREREQUISITE   None

ADULT CPR RENEWAL

PURPOSE   Train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults. 
PREREQUISITE   This a a renewal/recertification class only. If you have never taken CPR or your certification was issued prior to 6/1/2006, you will need to take the full Adult CPR course.

PURPOSE   To teach lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to give care in an emergency, help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. 
PREREQUISITE   None

Provide the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives. 
PREREQUISITE   None

• Describe the purpose of the Good Samaritan Laws.

CPR for the PROFESSIONAL

PURPOSE   To teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. 
PREREQUISITE   None. This class is recommended for individuals who have taken a CPR class in the past or who are currently in the professional rescue or medical profession. 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES  

§  Identify the responsibilities and characteristics of a professional rescuer. 

  §   List the series of events that occur when the emergency medical services (EMS) system is activated.
    §   Understand legal considerations that affect a professional rescuer. 
    §   Recognize and provide appropriate care for breathing emergencies, including cardiac arrest, and other life-threatening injuries and illnesses. 
    §   Demonstrate how to properly remove disposable gloves. 
    §   Demonstrate how to perform an initial assessment. 
    §   Demonstrate how to perform rescue breathing (adult, child and infant). 
    §   Demonstrate how to use a BVM with two rescuers. 
    §   Demonstrate how to care for an obstructed airway (adult, child and infant). 
    §   Describe when and how to use an AED. 
    §   Demonstrate how to give CPR (adult, child and infant). 
    §   Demonstrate how to give two-rescuer CPR (adult, child and infant). 
    §   Demonstrate how to use an AED in cardiac arrest (adult and child). 
    §   Demonstrate how to use an AED when CPR is in progress (adult and child).

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT   §         Attend all class sessions.

CPR for the PROFESSIONAL

CHALLENGE

PREREQUISITE   Current/nonexpired certificate. This option is recommended for renewal/recertification only.

OTHER INFORMATION   This is a challenge course only. There is no review and no study time allowed while in office. You will be given a written test and a skills test. You will be prompted by the instructor with a real life scenario and are expected to respond correctly without coaching, assistance, or hesitation.
    If you do not pass the written test or any part of the skills test, you may challnege the course again or you will have to take the full course to receive certification. Full payment is required.

CA CHILD CARE

PURPOSE   To train foster and adopting families and individuals interested in or currently in the Child Care Profession.  Training includes Health & Safety, CPR and First Aid.  EMSA Certified for state licensing purposes.
PREREQUISITE   None
LEARNING OBJECTIVES   Preventative Health & Safety -
 
    This course meets the California State requirement for health and safety training for child care workers. Subject matter includes preventing disease transmission, taking care of the ill child, and other health and safety precautions related to the child care setting.
    CPR and Pediatric First Aid -
    Please see description for CPR and First Aid under "CPR for all ages w/ First Aid". 
    Pediatric First Aid will emphasis response and care to injuries of Infants and Children.

BABYSITTERS TRAINING

PURPOSE   The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course is to provide individuals, ages 11 to 14 with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety and safe play; and first aid.
PREREQUISITE   None
LEARNING OBJECTIVES  

• Know how to use the Family Interview Form to gain information for a safe and responsible babysitting experience.

  Describe why the Babysitter’s Self-Assessment Tool, Family Interview Form and Babysitter’s Report Record are useful tools for managing a babysitting business.
    Demonstrate using the FIND Decision-Making Model to solve babysitting dilemmas.
    Recognize that there can be different correct solutions to a problem. The best solution depends on the babysitter’s experience and skills, as well as the situation.
    Use the Babysitter’s Training Handbook to help identify ways to recognize, fix and use safety principles to solve problems in the home and surrounding environment.
    Describe how germs can be transmitted among children.
    Know when hand washing is needed and why the babysitter’s hands and a child’s hands must be kept clean when babysitting.
    Describe the babysitter’s role in guiding safe and responsible play.

SERVE SAFE

PURPOSE   Course is designed to help leaders in the food service industry meet requirements set by the National Restaurant Educational Foundation.
PREREQUISITE   Obtaining the book and studying prior to the class is recommended. 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES   Introduces ways to prevent food-related illness and how to implement a food-safety program. Also includes National testing valid for California State Certification requirements.
     
LENGTH   Approximately 6 Hours (2 hours for Testing)
